Basketball Season

Things are starting to get busy over at www.vcuramnation.com. Tonight is the 2nd game of the season, we’ve already covered 3 games (2 preseason, 1 regular season) with video and audio coverage. Tonight, we’ll be doing live-blogging with photo updates, as well as video highlight coverage.

I don’t know of any other college basketball program that gets this kind of dedicated coverage from a media outlet. It’s pretty exciting for all of us. And we just agreed on contract to syndicate our podcast coverage out to www.rvanews.com. This means bigger audience and bigger numbers.

We also have John Tatum providing us free access and rights to his high-quality photography of each game. Where else can you get a picture of Coach Grant like this:

VCU Ram Nation

As the preseason begins tonight for the VCU Rams, I’ve been doing some major revamp work on the VCU Ram Nation website. We’re stepping up our presence this year, with video podcasts, bigger audio interviews, and some additional contributing writers for traditional written media.

Last.fm Charts

I was just over at Last.fm, which is one of my favorite web services. Over the past few months, they’ve done a lot of revamping the service, as well as a new interface. What makes this service awesome, is that it collects data about what I’m listening to, then creates an array of information to look at.

I use an app called iScrobbler, which runs in the background, and submits each song I listen to in iTunes, to Last.fm. Last.fm then collects that data, and provides me up to the minute information on my favorites.

Dead on. I really like the new Conor Oberst album. Didn’t realize I’ve listened (obsessed) to that more than anything else in 3 months.

The new Ryan Adams and The Cardinals album, Cardinology, is coming out October 28th. Rolling Stone gives it 4 stars, calling it a “near-classic record”. So excited.

Attached is a poll from the NY Times today.

It shows that over the past 6 years, basically post-9/11, things have been spiraling out of control.

More than 8 in 10 Americans do not trust the government to do what is right, the highest ever recorded in a Times/CBS News poll. And Mr. McCain is trying to keep the White House in Republican hands at a time when President Bush’s job approval rating is at 24 percent, hovering near its historic low.

This is headline news. The party is over!

New MacBook Design

Today, Apple unveiled the most incredible laptop design I’ve ever seen. It’s carved from a single block of aluminum, which reduces the number of reinforcement bars and cuts down on weight. This means that Apple can make a smaller, lighter laptop with greater durability.

That is exactly the new MacBook. I could only repeat what is so well mapped out by Apple on their website. So check it out!

Nikon D40

My Flickr page has been really suffering over the past 9 months without a DSLR camera. I was using a borrowed Nikon D70 (one of the first model digital SLR cameras to come out) prior. Since then, most of my pictures have been taken with a 2.0 MP iPhone camera. It’s like a gallery of neo-impressionist paintings.

But today, after saving for a bit, I am treating myself to a brand new, Eddy Award-winning and JD Powers Award-winning, Nikon D40! It will be here by Tuesday! Complete with a second 28-70mm f/2.8-4 DG Compact High Speed Aspherical Zoom Autofocus Lens.
